Aye ye foamsmoking scurries. I have been away for long. Just poppin in to drop a few links and tell you that I still love you and mind you - I'm not dead. I'm just going ninja for a while. Sometimes what you see is not what you think you see, but what someone wants you to think you're seeing. Before I'll get lost in that logical knot let's just bang head on the subject wall and say:

Staying up at night might have a lot of nice pros. One is that many budding artists release a lot of material from their Den of Black Magic (improvised home studios) in the late hours. Like Öllegård Thulin. Just listen to this, awesomely fresh track. If you know how a great dancefloor sounds while it's still being nurtured in the glass house in your grandmothers garden, this is it.

Yes, it's been a long time. My broadcasts to the world keeps twirling around in my head but as you might have noticed, it's easier to follow me at twitter nowadays. However, some things are too good to get lost in the flow. The duo Emelie Molin and Victoria Skoglund has banded together to form Mire Kay, and the result is soaring.

Today's the official release of Sea Monster by Mire Kay. Beautiful and with a tangly air that just blends right in through your mind and tease something wonderful out of the vast deep inside.

Looking forward to Modern Dansteatern on saturday. Since I visited them last they've hunted down - or perhaps he hunted them down - Danjel Andersson, former editor of the magazine Visslingar & Rop. He's now the director of the place, which I believe is for the better. As a director of the festival Perfect performance; he booked the single performed art piece still engraved as "best I've seen" in my memory, IBM 1401 - A user's manual. From Erna Ómarsdottirs webpage:

If you're in Stockholm on saturday, join me for a evening at Skeppsholmen and Moderna Dansteatern. It's a two-stage evening, beginning with Dorte Olesens Unclean thoughts. I've been giving linkage to Queen Kwong before. Now she released a work-in-progress video up of the song Long gone, meant to be on the forthcoming album. It's a collaboration with Joe Cardamone. The enlightened reader immediately recognizes front man from The Icarus Line. I didn't. However, if that band name don't ring any bells, you should check them out. They released Black Lives through the awesome Dim Mak Records.

I once read a music review at Feber.se (when it was the now-legendary Feber.se run by Olsson, Gradvall, Persson, Lokko and and not a bleak copy of reddit) delivering an undeniably clear message about the word "magic" and its rightful place in a review. Which isn't. It's one of those big no-no words for reviewers. And of course, in line with the feber-ism, it was subsequently used in that same review.

Some tracks by Vivianne was presented on Tracasseur today. Label Koloni Records tags it Lumberjack disco. This is Good Weather For An Airstrike on speed with a bigger boombox on the shoulder going downhill on a longboard in the rising sunrays. I'll be playing this on repeat in my car until summer comes back. This is all your electronic dreams with a beating heart.

Eco-Patents Common

The solution is simple, but not easy to achieve. My father says this when things get rough. And todays topic is eco-patents. My suggestion for a better tomorrow? Make law force all eco-patents into a open-source common.
In cooperation with WBCSD some global businesses are trying it out.

I believe shared knowledge is double knowledge. As the TV-chef I'm truly not I've prepared one interesting path towards something like the GPL. Swedish government is handling a small account of "artists salaries". Basically a government guarantee that will compensate the recievers income if it falls beneath a specified sum/year.
I think it'd be interesting if the government started offering this kind of income guarantees as an exchange for buying a good idea from an inventor.

I'll return with an invite to Samuels bar for mingle and discussion about different ways of transferring this idea into Swedish policy. Policymakers and wannabees welcome!

The small indie label Lefty in Östersund Sweden has only one artist in their list. I'd like to re-introduce Pulpa. Pulpa is two guys from Umeå and Östersund in Sweden playing headbanging electro with savvy sound engorging eardrums in a gorgeous sound. In an interview by Flukta.se the band considers their music to be "death electro". We can't but agree! Heartbeat went to their concert in Stockholm last year and today the album selftitled album turned all day. This band is definately on the "want-to-book" list. Recommend checking in on their myspace for some listening.

Just yesterday I registered an account in a small community for sound technicians and ran into a thread about Really Strange Instruments. Enter the Daxophone, by Hans Reichel. Reichel is a wicked jazz musician and probably also a quite skilled Flash programmer. His website is far out.

This is a foultalkin chauvinist hustler telling stories from his life. I'm not impressed by his criminal record and the stuff he got away with. His way of depicting women as walking sextoys used for making money stands for itself. But he's got helluva way of telling about it all.

I just finished 'Airtight Willie and me' by Iceberg Slim. Cypher says in The Matrix: Good shit, huh? It's good for two things: degreasing engines and killing brain cells. I'd say Mr Slims prose is so brimpacked with pimpin' slang and 'ho bull it sure be effective in degreasing engines. Killing braincells, I don't know. More like, making the little greys getting the hots on each other and multiplying. Because this is the shit. The shit, kept real and swinging. It might be a lot of bullshit boasting and storytelling but Iceberg Slim is, as Ice-T writes in the intro to another of Slims novels 'Doom Fox', "He knew pimping. He knew hustling. He knew the streets...."

Pay some respect to one of black americas big modern writers. His texts carries a weight not gained in the fancy schools but he makes quite the lot of references to big names in the bookshelfs of well-kept libraries and have a way of using the street hustlin' slang that gives straight up and proper introduction to a world of many a 'ho, stylish wheels and classy suites with those mirrored tables and the lines upon them.

Iceberg Slim might be the afro american answer to Mario Puzo.

Discovery [myspace] is a duo from New York compiling small heaps of slick electronic jive for our ears. There's a lot of r'n'b in the lyrics, and in the beats, bringing my finger closer to the eject button. But at arms length this record will probably evolve into a few interesting remixes. I'm up in Arvika working among the festival heroes of Arvikafestivalen. Everythings exceptionally easyflowing and there's been bumps along the road but naught un-handle... er.. hustle-able. Best acts yet? I missed the Yuksek gig and it's actually too warm and too early for the Orion stage to attract a crowd. Too bad, since the dj lineup this year sports names as mentioned, Karl Johan and Moulinex. If I'm to feature some of the headliners; Thåström will be interesting with the matured voice he's attained and my personal all-Arvikafestivalen favourite Bob Hund. Beware of the dogs!

A king of sand and a black flag in EU

One of my friends called me. He was on his way home from the embassy of Iran, here in Sweden. The embassy had been surrounded by a large group of iran communists and he had to make a small detour in order to make his vote in the Iran general election. Now the results are up, and BBC has covered it here, and in pictures here. I was actually surprised reading Mr. Ahmadinejad was re-elected. However it kinda figures the guy in control (to put it mildly) keeps a firm grip. As it seems there won't be any violent revolution coming up, but analysts seems to expect minor outbursts. I will dig deeper into this foreign election. The question in mind: Is Ahmadinejad now a king of sand?

From a Heartbeat perspective, this election is not really drawing any borders to our activities, but we like to keep a watch and especially since not a few of our friends was among those voting. Something about another election, the Swedish general election for EU parliament: Arrgh. I didn't vote for the so-called Pirates. I don't want them in parliament. Not because I don't pull down a song now or then from the cloud; it's because I expect politicians - especially leading ones - to be better persons than the rest of us. More educated, intelligent, show more solidarity and bear more sustainable development in mind than the rest of us. Not to be some trolls raving columns and blurting out oneliners which I can't even remember a minute later.

Getting a bit far out on the ice, I feel my english skills ain't elite enough to handle this topic any further, I'm just kicking this ball out on the field: I'm not trying to propagate a technocrati. I just believe our system could produce better things, if choosing a different path to that shiny goal "democracy".

So I got a phonecall the other day from an ol aquaintance. Telling me there's some kind of stuff in Gothenburg, someone's fucking up the timetables at the tram stops. Bad ad. That's all I've got to say about that. Don't fuck with infrastructure. So angry I won't even link it.

Anyhow, things that got me feeling a lot more better is moving to Hammarbyhöjden. Yes folks! It's relocation time, but the major lift is already done in a minor minute. I also got hold on an old wreck on wheels and it's a gift from Jens Brown, but alas it's too run down after spending a couple of years standing still under a spruce tree. I might have to tug it down to a car disposal.

Best thing about the new place? Except for having an excellent roommate, we've got a bar. Yes folks! (Again!) It's true. A bar in the apartment. Come visit us.

You kin talk the talk

One real good comic was published by DC/Vertigo tween 1995 and 2000. Preacher. You might remember the bushbeating from last years when HBO couldn't make a straight decision? It seems American Beauty director Sam Mendez is still trying to go big screen with the results. Now let's see ya walk the walk.

Preacher was written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Steve Dillon it was kind of obvious that it'd make it for great success, even among the so-cal critics. Ennis and Dillon had been working together with Jimmy Palmiotti (who is also behind the inking of Ghost rider) on Punisher [Punisher again]. Palmiotti is also involved in the writing of a US version of Vampire Hunter D. American Wasteland is the title.

Looking back on Dillon, he's done some real good works, among them most notably Hellblazer. For most of you outside the world of comics the movie "Constantine" starring Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz might be somewhat familiar? It's based on Hellblazer, and the main protagonist with the same name as the movie. As common in the comic world, Hellblazer has been having a lot of different writers and graphic artists. Among the writers is the perhaps more commonly known Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman is perhaps known to you for his fantasy novels but to me he is mainly the creator of Sandman, a classic among comics. Those days one of his works even runs on the silver screens - go get a ticket for Coraline. Don't forget to read the novel first though. I guess the movie's kinda... childified. Hopefully some of Gaimans darker sides shines (if darkness can shine) through all the streamlining from Movieindustry Inc.

And so into the core - the text by Ennis. He's done quite a lot, so I'll just sum up something and you'll go to his Wikipedia article to find out what more there is to read. Ennis is born in Ireland, ironically in Holywood (he's known for his sinister violence, dark humor, general aversion against religion and protagonists being quite the anti-heroes). One of his lighter series is Chronicles of Wormwood. Check it out and get a copy.

Anyone remember the incredibly funny movie Dark Star? When I was a teenager I watched a lot of really bad movies. This was among them. It's not really a movie. It's a joke. It ends in a most humoristic dialogue about philosophy and a consequence of difference between mind and matter. The dialogue is held by Lt. Doolittle and Bomb #20, of which the latter has a very, very concrete experience of Deus ex machina. I think it's a pretty good example of emergence, although in the movie it's more like emergency.

Emergence in Art and Philosophy

I think the magic out of human collaboration is especially vibrant in the processes of art production. In performed art and music this gets especially concrete. Something closely related to emergence.

A few years ago, in the winter tween 2004-2005 I had the pleasure of arranging my first and yet until this day only theatre play from Riksteatern. I've been working with plays and stages for years, but somehow this one and only contact with Riksteatern as a small town producer - t'was in Arvika - made me believe in the theatre art form. And the play? Kärlek Extra Allt, directed by Farnaz Arbabi and performed by Micke Wranell, Isabel Reboia and Magnus Tingsek. The script was a collage of nine writers and in through the actors it came alive. A phenomenon described as emergence. It made me believe in theatre as an art form; with a potential to make change. The latter three years I've been loosely connected to the free theatre group UngaTur (Swedens finest!) which has kept my belief in theatre going strong.

Now, after a few years of successful plays Farnaz Arbabi has collaborated with a "directors eye" upon Moral Science Club. I've found the Cambridge University short history over the Moral Science Club. Here's an excerpt:

"No account of the Club would be complete without a brief description of the most notorious meeting of all (possibly excepting I Hacking's lively 1998 summary of knitwear production techniques in British Columbia). This was the poker-involving confrontation between Wittgenstein and Popper at a meeting of the Club on 26 October 1946 at which Popper read a paper entitled 'Are there Philosophical Problems?'.

Opinion is divided over exactly what happened at that meeting. Some say that Popper and Wittgenstein, having lashed one another into a philosophical frenzy, came to blows, each armed with a poker. Popper himself states in his autobiography that Wittgenstein brandished a poker at Popper, demanding an example of a moral rule, to which Popper replied: 'Not to threaten visiting speakers with pokers', whereupon Wittgenstein is said to have thrown down the poker and stormed out of the room. Others say that it was Russell who made this amusing remark. Consistent with all of these views was the opinion of the Secretary, W. Hijab (Trinity), who says in his minute that the meeting 'was charged to an unusual degree with the spirit of controversy'. (The occasion is the subject of a best-selling recent book, Wittgenstein's Poker)"

This excerpt helps me conclude that art and philosophy has one thing in common: Put enough great egos in the same place and you'll reach critical mass, whereupon fighting will occur. If this is to be called dogfights because of the fights obvious goal of being Top Dog, is still to be pondered of.

Anyway. Go see Moral Science Club if you're in Stockholm and understands Swedish. Arbabi is a excellent director in my book, and Meidal a topnotch actor. If you don't believe in theatre, I urge you to go see this.

I got a comment from Bookaholic (thank you :-). For being a straightforward name I cherish it; the specific combination of books and a burning desire - pure passion - is to be cherished. Suffice to say, I'm now following the blog closely. So what is is about then? Bookaholic is written by two ladies in Nigeria. A country with over 250 languages in the heart of the African continent and home to a big part of the Yoruba which I've already written about here.

Now, Nigeria might be all Biafra pictures in your western medialized heads. Forget about that! Nigeria is a country brimming with people. And people dream. And those dreams are finally spilling out over the borders through Internet. 131 million people lives in Nigeria. 131 000 000 dreams. And the average age is 18! I really want to visit Nigeria some day.

I am wishing the best for everyone who wants to distribute and promote the reading of books. If I visit Nigeria I will try to plan so that I'll be able to visit the Nigeria International Book Fair in Lagos. Maybe I'll meet the Bookaholics there.

Okay folks, check out the finest festival Sweden has got to offer this summer! May 29th through 31th in the vicinity of Uppsala.

The past
2004. Lilleman is about to enter bootcamp [Military Service] and will miss out on all the festivals. He decides to use the garden at his house in southern Stockholm to stage his own festival, including all the vital parts (the drinking of beer, the making of mud, the living in tents and the general disorder and littering). With a little help from his friends it turns out a success, although Lilleman was the only one actually sleeping in a tent.

The present
Lillemanfestivalen has spawned into a full fledged festival and is relocated.

The lineup
I've made a pick out of the lineup and I believe the three first ones stand a good chance on going international. Enola puts some crying in the crowd. The myspace songlist smells one-step-from-label, The Hyper Actives rips some good rock down the ear channels and The Grand Minor will soothe out those springbreak sores. Another interesting band in line-up is Orkestern, with band members Otto Niklasson Elmerås and Daniel Aldenmark who grew up in my hometown Uddevalla. They've been making music together in different constellations for so long and developed a neat quirky sound easily audible in Orkesterns arrangements.

My parents danced. They still do sometimes, and they're still great. My mother use to say she took the most handsome and best dancer she could fine. I grew up in heaps of cassettes and vinyls, stonecakes and later CDs filled with danceband, disco, Motown and good ol' Folkparksrock. And of course, my fathers collection of hammond nerdery and early progressive rock. Something about this day made me think of a certain song played a lot on the P4 Radio Väst when I was younger. Omoluwabi

I'm reading about omoluwabi. Last year I went to a seminar on Nigerian, more precisely Yorubian, philosophy. It's called Omoluwabi and roughly outlined consists of a set of questions to ask yourself. The philosophy has some likness to de Bono's thinking hats. Omoluwabi puts emphasis on the individual and methods to strengthen the character, caring not to neglect either aspect of the character in order to create an evolved character.

An interesting part of Omoluwabi is the equation Character + Choices = Destiny. The equation is wikked, it creeps me out for sure. I don't believe in destiny but I'm pretty sure that "destiny" is not a proper interpretation of the original word, and propose "direction" instead of destiny. And I also have doubts about using such a abstract word as character to make metaphors.

Time for lunch. Have a song while I'm gone. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Little Shadow in a wonderful acoustic version. I've been listening to it on repeat fo' three hours straight.

Today, C piloted a crew out in the woods of Almunge, north of Stockholm. I wasn't there. My neck is strained, the trapezius are hurt and slowly mending. However the resonance of their work - a music video for Audrey - sent pulses through the air which I find soothing.

Thinking about trees, I recall old knowledge I recieved from a teacher in grammar school who taught me about different kinds of tree qualities. Apparantly, people still care about trees enough to make homepages. Which makes me think of the tree huggers. Now a common conception, "trädkramare" (treehugger), was made known in Sweden by a group of eco-activists in Bohuslän, west Sweden, who hugged trees and refused to let go. All in order to stop the paving for a new highway.

I just came back from a workshop lead by Sofia and Carlos at Medborgaranalysen. It's about a new venue for culture in Solna. Met up with a few known and unknown faces and got to talk about art, culture and social architecture with Casper Verner-Carlsson. Very interesting.

In the talk I brought up the question Is this a destination for culture and arts rather than a airport where ideas meet up, multiply and take-off? I believe a community-sponsored culture centre is supposed to empower people with the ability to create and get feedback on their creations. Therefore it's not a destination in the sense, it's rather a roundabout for ideas, with clear and present signs telling which directions might lead you to where your specific destination lies.

Well as you know I'm a Starcraft devotee. A zealot, you might say, of Blizzard RTS games. Now I don't know what's gotten into the heads of Blizzard staff but they've started talking about freedom fighting and wing of liberty. It pisses me off. I'll play the game, I'll even buy the three (!) goddamned storyline products. Yes, they've split up the game in three separate products. As if they won't get enough money outta customers if not. Är du i Stockholm är det närmast brottsligt att inte besöka Café Mineur. Aeropresskaffe, saffranskaka med sylt och någon som faktiskt väljer musiken (i samtalsvänlig volym). Det är som att ta steget in i en målning. Av ett perfekt källarcafé i Gamla Stan, till exempel.

PS. Dessutom var det här som Fair Magazine hade release. Fast det tog mig lång tid att besöka stället när det är "som vanligt".
